“Dancing with the Stars” judge Derek Hough will appear in Broadway’s “Chicago” for one night. Hough will deliver the show’s opening monologue — traditionally given by the actor playing the Master of Ceremonies — during the 7 p.m. performance on July 20.
All audience members are invited to stay after curtain for a post-show talkback between Hough and fellow “Dancing with the Stars” alum Mark Ballas. Ballas, a professional dance instructor and three-time champion of “Dancing with the Stars,” will return to “Chicago” as Billy Flynn that night, after having played a stint earlier this year.
Hough joined the cast of the reality competition series “Dancing with the Stars” as a professional instructor during the show’s fifth season. With various celebrity partners, he has since become a six-time “Dancing with the Stars” champion. This will be Hough’s second time appearing on Broadway. He previously played a one-night replacement stint in “Burn the Floor” in 2010. In 2015, he co-starred with Laura Benanti in the “New York Spring Spectacular” at Radio City Music Hall. Hough first joined the “Dancing with the Stars” judging panel in its 29th season, becoming head judge after Len Goodman’s retirement in 2022.
The current “Chicago” cast features Krysta Rodriguez as Roxie Hart, Sophie Carmen-Jones as Velma Kelly, Matteo Lane as Billy Flynn and Jacqueline B. Arnold as Matron “Mama” Morton.
“Chicago” is produced by Barry & Fran Weissler.
