‘Choir Boy’ announces full cast, new opening night

“Choir Boy” has set its full cast ahead of a new opening night date.

In addition to previously announced cast members Chuck Cooper, Austin Pendleton and Jeremy Pope, the full cast includes Nicholas L. Ashe, Daniel Bellomy, Jonathan Burke, Gerald Caesar, John Clay III, Caleb Eberhardt, Marcus Gladney and J. Quinton Johnson.

The play, written by Tarell Alvin McCarney, the co-writer of “Moonlight,” and directed by Trip Cullman, has moved up its schedule to begin previews on Dec. 11, 2018, with an opening date of Jan. 10, 2019 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. It was originally scheduled to open on Jan. 22, 2019.

The creative team for “Choir Boy” includes David Zinn as the scenic and costume designer, Peter Kaczorowski as the lighting designer, Fitz Patton as the sound designer, Cookie Jordan as the makeup designer, Jason Michael Webb on music direction and vocal arrangements, Thomas Schall as the fight director and Camille A. Brown on movement.

The play premiered off-Broadway in 2013 at Manhattan Theatre Club’s The Studio at Stage II.
