Brody Grant sets final performance in Broadway’s ‘The Outsiders’

Grant received a Tony Award nomination for his performance as Ponyboy Curtis.

“The Outsiders” will bid farewell to Brody Grant. Grant, who earned a 2024 Tony Award nomination for his leading turn as Ponyboy Curtis, will take a final bow in the musical at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on Sept. 21. A replacement for the role will be announced.

“The Outsiders” marked the Broadway debut of Grant, who originated the role in the musical’s 2023 world premiere at La Jolla Playhouse. Prior to “The Outsiders,” Grant played Young Soldier in the 2022 New York City Center presentation of “Parade.”

The current cast of “The Outsiders” also incudes Brent Comer as Darrel Curtis, Alex Joseph Grayson as Dallas Winston, Jason Schmidt as Sodapop Curtis and Sky-Lakota Lynch in a Tony-nominated performance as Johnny Cade. Casting is by the TRC Company and Xavier Rubiano.

Directed by Danya Taymor, “The Outsiders” features a Tony Award-nominated book by Adam Rapp and Justin Levine and a Tony-nominated score by Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance) and Levine, the latter of whom also provinces music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements.

Based on the novel by Susie Hinton and the subsequent film adaptation by Francis Ford Coppola, the Tulsa-set “Outsiders” is a coming-of-age story of two rival teenage gangs, the Greasers and the Socs. The musical opened on Broadway on April 11 and received 12 Tony nominations, winning four, including trophies for Best Musical and Taymor’s direction.

“The Outsiders” is produced by the Araca Group, American Zoetrope, Olympus Theatricals, Sue Gilad, Larry Rogowsky and Angelina Jolie.
