“Suffs” has announced a partnership with When We All Vote. The partnership will help theatergoers of the new musical become registered and ensure they are ready for the 2024 general election. Featuring book, music and lyrics by Shaina Taub, “Suffs” began previews on March 26 and will open on April 18 at the Music Box Theatre.

When We All Vote is a national, nonpartisan initiative dedicated to increase participation in elections and change the culture around voting. The partnership with “Suffs” will engage with eligible voters both in and out of the theater. “Suffs” ticket holders will be able to confirm their voter registration status at the Music Box; volunteers from When We All Vote will also help attendees register to vote. Outside of the venue, anyone can access a voter registration portal on the “Suffs” website.

“Voting rights are a central theme of ‘Suffs,’” lead producers Jill Furman and Rachel Sussman said in a statement. “We are excited to partner with When We All Vote to remind audiences of their constitutional right the suffragists fought so valiantly for over a century ago. In this crucial election year, citizens need to use their voices and fight for the causes they care about, and we hope ‘Suffs’ inspires them to do just that.”

“The 1913 fight for a women’s right to vote is a classic American story of people making their voices heard and pushing the country to be better,” explained When We All Vote executive director Beth Lynk. “Today, the work continues to ensure everyone has equal access to the ballot box, and we are proud to partner with ‘Suffs’ to change the culture around voting in our country, starting with knowing our history. Together, we encourage all Americans to speak up about the issues they care about — both onstage and at the polls.”

“Suffs”’ commitment to voting rights also extends to the show’s merchandise. In a partnership with sustainably-sourced, fair trade clothing line Lingua Franca, a custom collection of cashmere sweaters will be available at the Music Box’s merchandise booth as well as online. Ten percent of proceeds will go to When We All Vote.

Set in 1913-1920 America, “Suffs” chronicles the suffragist movement, as seen through the eyes of the women who shaped it.

When We All Vote was founded in 2018 by former First Lady Michelle Obama and is co-chaired by Stephen Curry, Becky G, Selena Gomez, Tom Hanks, H.E.R., Liza Koshy, Jennifer Lopez, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Janelle Monae, Chris Paul, Megan Rapinoe, Shonda Rhimes, Bretman Rock, Kerry Washington and Rita Wilson. It is an initiative of of the nonprofit organization Civic Nation.

“Suffs” is produced by Furman and Sussman. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Malala Yousafzai serve as co-producers.
