Broadway revival of ‘The Wiz’ will receive cast album

The production opened in April at the Marquis Theatre.

An original cast album will be recorded for the currently running revival of “The Wiz.” Immersive/Interscope Records will produce the album, which will be available on July 12.

The Broadway cast recording will feature the Tony Award-winning score by Charlie Smalls and orchestrations by Joseph Joubert. It also includes the songs “Everybody Rejoice” with music and lyrics by Luther Vandross, as well as the “Emerald City Ballet” with music by Timothy Graphenreed.

The cast album will preserve the performances of Nichelle Lewis as Dorothy, Wayne Brady as the Wiz, Deborah Cox as Glinda, Melody A. Betts as Aunt Em and Evillene, Kyle Ramar Freeman as Lion, Phillip Johnson Richardson as Tinman and Avery Wilson as Scarecrow. 

Rounding out the cast are Lauryn Adams, Maya Bowles, Shayla Alayre Caldwell, Jay Copeland, Allyson Kaye Daniel, Judith Franklin, Michael Samarie George, Collin Heyward, Amber Jackson, Olivia Jackson, Christina Jones, Polanco Jones, Kolby Kindle, Mariah Lyttle, Kareem Marsh, Alan Mingo, Jr., Anthony Murphy, Dustin Praylow, Cristina Raé, Matthew Sims Jr., Avilon Trust Tate, Keenan D. Washington and Timothy Wilson.

Directed by Schele Williams, “The Wiz” began previews on March 29 and opened on April 17 at the Marquis Theatre. The musical will play a limited run through Aug. 18. Prior to its Main Stem, the musical toured North America from September 2023 through March 2024. Following its Broadway engagement, “The Wiz” will return to the road in 2025.

Featuring a book by William F. Brown with additional material by Amber Ruffin, “The Wiz” is an all-Black adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s “Wizard of Oz.”

“The Wiz” is produced by Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson, Brian Anthony Moreland, Ambassador Theatre Group, Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker.
