The West End production of “Giant” is coming to cinemas this November. A live capture of the drama will play in 900 movie theaters across 18 countries — including the U.S., Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and select international territories — beginning on November 19. Tickets sales will begin on July 9.

A performance of “Giant” was captured live at London’s Harold Pinter Theatre by Trafalgar Releasing, which will also distribute the film in theaters. The event cinema wing of U.K. media group Trafalgar Entertainment, Trafalgar Releasing has previously been responsible for concert films featuring the likes of Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, BTS, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Coldplay and Billie Eilish, in addition to filmed performances by the Royal Ballet and Opera.

The drama, which stars John Lithgow as children’s author Roald Dahl, won three Olivier Awards during its 2025 West End Run, including Best New Play and acting awards for Lithgow and Elliot Levey. It transferred to Broadway the following year, where it has been nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Play and acting awards for Lithgow and Aya Cash.

“When I began to write ‘Giant,’ I never dreamed that it would be seen by so many — at the Royal Court, in the West End and now on Broadway,” said playwright Mark Rosenblatt in a statement. “That the play, and this exquisite cast’s stellar performances, might now be experienced by a yet wider audience around the world with a new kind of immediacy and intimacy — close up, at a cinema — is, to me at least, giddy-makingly astounding.”

“In my 53-year, 25-show career on Broadway, I’ve rarely experienced the kind of audience response that we feel night after night with ‘Giant,’” added Lithgow. “Mark Rosenblatt has written a play of extraordinary intelligence and humanity, and with every performance I can sense the audience wrestling with its questions in real time. This is the unique power of theater at its best. I’m thrilled that our production will now reach movie theaters around the world, allowing even more people to experience the urgency, impact and emotional force of this story.”

The play’s producing team added, “‘Giant’ has played to sold-out audiences at the Royal Court, in the West End and now on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre. Every night, we are reminded of the unique power of live theater to challenge perspectives and bring audiences together in a shared experience. That is why we are so honored to bring this extraordinary Tony-nominated and Olivier Award-winning play to movie theaters around the world, allowing even more audiences to experience this powerful play.”

“Giant” follows Dahl during a controversial period in his life: In 1983, his comments in a literary review of a picture book about the Israeli army’s siege of West Beirut were criticized as anti-Semitic. Over a single afternoon, Dahl, with the help of his publishers, must decide whether to issue an apology or risk his career and stand by his statements.

“Giant” is written by Rosenblatt and directed by Nicholas Hytner. The Broadway production officially opened at the Music Box Theatre on March 11, and is set to run through June 28.
