Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has announced the return of its bi-annual red bucket fundraising campaign. Select Broadway shows and national tours will engage in post-show donation collections beginning on March 15 and will continue through April 28.

Participating Broadway shows include “& Juliet,” “A Beautiful Noise,” “Days of Wine and Roses,” “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “Kimberly Akimbo,” “”Merrily We Roll Along,” “The Book of Mormon” “The Lion King” and “Sweeney Todd.” The currently running national tours of “Beetlejuice,” “Company,” “Frozen,” “Funny Girl,” “Girl From the North Country,” “Hadestown,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “The Lion King” and “Wicked” are slated to participate, as well as the Off-Broadway productions of “Little Shop of Horrors,” The Play That Goes Wrong” and “Titanique.”

In previous years, the monies collected in the spring culminated with the annual Easter Bonnet Competition, a combination of skits and songs written specifically for each participating show, as well as a presentation of custom-made, show-specific Easter bonnets. However, Broadway Cares’ spring and fall fundraising will be celebrated together at the annual Red Bucket Follies, held every year in December.

Donations to Broadway Cares go directly to provide meals, medication and healthcare to those battling HIV/AIDS and other illnesses. 2023’s spring fundraising brought in $3.6 million.
