Broadway box office sees modest increase as two new productions begin

Broadway welcomed a pair of productions to its roster this past week: the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical "Bad Cinderella" and the latest revival of Ibsen's "A Doll's House. "  Individual productions held steady, with moderate box office increases for 19 of the 20 shows running.

Broadway welcomed a pair of productions to its roster this past week: the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “Bad Cinderella” and the latest revival of Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House.”

Individual productions held steady, with moderate box office increases for 19 of the 20 shows running. “Leopoldstadt” was the only one to see a dip, grossing $669,875, down from $694,425 — a drop of 3.5%.

For the week ending Feb. 19, the 22 productions on Broadway grossed $26,853,298, up 16% from the previous week. Overall attendance hit 94.2% capacity, down 0.08%. The average ticket price was $138.01, an increase from $119.13.

“The Phantom of the Opera” and “Hamilton” each grossed more than $2 million — totaling $2,562,357 and $2,000,798, respectively. Eleven other shows grossed over $1 million.

Fourteen shows played to over 90% capacity. Of those shows, four — “Hamilton,” “Moulin Rouge!,” “Phantom” and newcomer “Bad Cinderella” — performed to 100% capacity or more. the latter musical began previews on Feb. 17.

In its final week, “Between Riverside and Crazy” totaled $421,350, up 8% ($30,958) from the previous week. It also played to 96.1% capacity. These grosses do not reflect any ticket sales from the four simulcast performances on Feb. 17-19.
