Second Stage announced its 2021-2022 season Friday, with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Between Riverside and Crazy” as a new addition to its Broadway line-up.

The nonprofit theater company will reopen its Helen Hayes Theater this fall with “Clyde’s,” written by Lynn Nottage and directed by Kate Whoriskey and will bring back the postponed play “Take Me Out” in spring 2022. Exact dates for the runs have not yet been announced.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has cleared Broadway theaters to reopen at full capacity starting Sept. 14.

In fall 2022, Second Stage will present the Broadway premiere of Stephen Adly Guirgis’ “Between Riverside and Crazy,” directed by Austin Pendleton. Pendleton was the original director of the play, which premiered at the Atlantic Theater Company in 2014 before transferring to Second Stage’s Off-Broadway theater, the Tony Kiser Theater.

The play, which follows widower and ex-cop Pops Washington and his son Junior as they try to keep a rent stabilized apartment on Riverside Drive, won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Casting for the play has not yet been announced.

The play joins the previously announced work by Nottage, which will see its New York premiere this fall.

“Take Me Out,” was originally scheduled to open in April 2020 and then rescheduled for March 2021. The revival of Richard Greenberg’s play will be directed by Scott Ellis. The cast was originally led by Jesse Williams and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

The casting for the play’s delayed opening has not yet been confirmed.

Off-Broadway, Second Stage will start the season with the previously announced “Letters of Suresh,” by Rajiv Joseph, in fall 2021 at the Tony Kiser Theater. In spring 2022, the theater will present the world premiere of “To My Girls,” written by JC Lee and directed by Stephen Brackett.
