Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre were established in 1990 to recognize individuals and organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary achievement but are not eligible for established competitive Tony Award categories. This year, four recipients were named — three individuals and one organization. That organization is the 1/52 Project, founded by Tony-winning designer Beowulf Boritt. The organization calls on designers (and industry professionals) to donate a fraction of their earnings to provide grants to up-and-coming designers.

Here, Boritt and former grant recipient Stefania Bulbarella tell us about the 1/52 Project, its mission and this honor.
