ABC has chosen Mel Brooks’ “Young Frankenstein” as its next live musical.

The live musical is set to air on the network in the fall and to be produced by Brooks, who directed the 1974 film and wrote the score and co-wrote the book for the subsequent Broadway musical.

The announcement comes after the network recently aired “The Little Mermaid Live!” which it says was the most-watched made-for-TV musical in close to four years on any network.

“Young Frankenstein” opened on Broadway in 2007 and ran at the Hilton Theater, now the Lyric Theatre, through Jan. 4, 2009. Brooks co-wrote the book with Thomas Meehan and Susan Stroman directed and choreographed.

Casting and an air date for the live musical will be announced at a later date.
