The countdown to the 2026 Tony Awards has officially begun, and some of this year’s special honorees are already sharing their gratitude. Part of that pack is renowned production lawyer Loren Plotkin, who is taking home a Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre. Ahead of the June 7 main event, Plotkin delivered an acceptance speech that traces his journey protecting the business behind the art. Watch his remarks below.
Plotkin’s Broadway narrative kicked off over 50 years ago in 1973, when he served as a legal consultant for London’s production of “Gypsy” starring Angela Lansbury, later helping guide its 1974 transfer to New York. Since that momentous debut, he has provided legal counsel to roughly 100 Broadway shows, including “Rent,” “In the Heights,” “Ragtime,” “Moulin Rouge!” and “Hamilton,” while also serving as the trusted legal representative for the Alan Jay Lerner family estate.
