Tony Award-winning producers Hal Luftig, Cathy Dantchik and Kevin Connor have announced the establishment of a new company. Halcyon Theatricals provides producing, consulting and dramaturgy services in addition to lead-producing new work for the stage. According to a release, the company gets its name from “the mythic halcyon bird who could calm the seas and create a time of success, prosperity and harmony.”
In addition to principals Luftig, Dantchik and Connor, Halcyon Theatricals will also include creative director Kelly Robinson, producing strategist Ruth Pomerance and associate producer Eli Cohen. Halcyon’s offices will be located in Times Square.
Luftig made his Broadway debut as a production assistant for the 1983 revival of “Mame” and earned his first Main Stem producing credit as an associate producer for the 1991 comedy “I Hate Hamlet.” Luftig has received 13 Tony Award nominations as a producer, winning Best Revival of a Musical for 1999’s “Annie Get Your Gun” and 2024’s “Sunset Boulevard” and Best Musical for 2002’s “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and 2013’s “Kinky Boots,” the latter two of which he lead-produced. Luftig also received a Special Tony Award for producing “American Utopia.” He is currently developing “Becoming Nancy,” “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” and “Scotland, P.A.”
Dantchik is also a Tony-winning producer, having co-produced 2024 Best Play “Stereophonic” and 2025 Best Revival of a Musical “Sunset Boulevard.” She also received nominations for co-producing “The Hills of California” and “Buena Vista Social Club.” She earned her first Broadway credit co-producing “The Kite Runner” and most recently co-produced “Waiting for Godot.” Dantchik is currently co-chair of the 52nd Street Project.
Tony-winning producer Connor earned his first Main Stem credit as an associate producer for the Hal Luftig Company on “Plaza Suite.” Additional Broadway credits include “Life of Pi,” “Here Lies Love” and “Appropriate.” He earned his Tony trophy as a co-producer of the same “Sunset Boulevard” revival as his compatriots. Connor began his producing career as managing director of Houses on the Moon Theater Company, whose mission is to amplify underrepresented voices.
“Anyone who knows me knows I have devoted my entire career to my love of live theater, and Halcyon feels like a natural next step: a way to instruct, consult and help lead productions and new artists at a moment when experience, integrity and steady leadership matter more than ever,” said Luftig in a statement. “I have worked with Cathy and Kevin for decades and hold them in the highest regard, not only for their acumen but for their integrity. This felt like the right moment to bring our collective strengths together and formally fuse that shared vision into Halcyon.”
“We are thrilled to be launching Halcyon alongside such an extraordinary group of collaborators,” said Dantchik in a statement. “Kelly Robinson brings decades of leadership in creative development and dramaturgy; Ruth Pomerance brings an unmatched ability to identify talent and guide stories across publishing, film, television and theater; and Eli Cohen brings deep experience shepherding new work alongside Hal and Kevin.”
“We believe in theater that entertains and moves people, brings communities together and expands access to transformative stories,” Connor added. “Halcyon is about honoring this industry and its legacy while opening its doors wider: embracing new perspectives, new technologies and new ways of working, and ensuring that the stories we help bring to life inspire change, connection and a more compassionate world.”
Halcyon intends to shepherd shows creatively, financially and strategically from inception throughout its commercial path.
