On March 19, the Tony Award-winning musical “The Book of Mormon” will celebrate its 15th anniversary. The show will have a special 6 p.m. performance time on that day, with audience giveaways, surprise appearances “and a special announcement that’s sure to get theater fans buzzing” to follow, according to a press release.

Since its opening at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre on March 24, 2011, “The Book of Mormon” has become that venue’s longest-running show, with over 5,500 performances, and has broken the house box-office record more than 50 times.

In addition, “The Book of Mormon” is the 10th-longest-running Broadway show of all time, and the 4th-longest currently playing Broadway, behind “Chicago,” “The Lion King” and “Wicked.”

The musical, which follows two young American Mormons on a two-year mission to Uganda, was written and composed by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone and co-directed by Parker and Casey Nicholaw. The show was nominated for 14 Tonys and won nine at the 65th Annual Tony Awards in 2011, including Best Musical, Best Book, Best Original Score and Best Direction. Nikki M. James won a Tony for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role and co-stars Andrew Rannells, Josh Gad and Rory O’Malley received nominations. The cast recording won the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

“The Book of Mormon” is also currently running on London’s West End, where it won four 2014 Olivier Awards including Best Musical. The show is also on tour in North America, the United Kingdom and Australia.

“The Book of Mormon” is produced by Anne Garefino, Roger Berlind, Scott M. Delman, Jean Doumanian, Sonia Friedman Productions, Roy Furman, Stephanie P. McClelland, Kevin Morris, Jon B. Platt and executive produced by Stuart Thompson.
