‘The Book of Mormon’ expects to resume performances on May 21 at Eugene O’Neill Theatre

The venue’s box office will reopen Friday morning as repair work nears completion following a fire earlier this month.

ATG Entertainment and the producers of “The Book of Mormon” have announced that the musical is currently on track to resume performances on May 21. The long-running musical has been dark since May 4 when a fire broke out at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre, necessitating a temporary closure of the West 49th Street venue for repairs. The reopening follows a temporary arrangement previously announced on May 12, which had shifted in-person sales to the nearby August Wilson Theatre during the closure.

While performances of “The Book of Mormon” remain canceled through May 20, the production is showing signs of a return to normal operations with the reopening of the O’Neill box office. Starting at 10 a.m. on May 15, the O’Neill’s physical box office will once again be available to the public. To mark the reopening and the show’s 15th anniversary, the production is offering a limited promotion for the first 50 people in line on Friday morning.

ATG, which owns and operates the O’Neill, credited the progress to an internal team as well as cooperation from the FDNY and the Department of Buildings. The landlord and the production noted that they will continue to monitor the timeline and provide further updates to the Broadway community and ticket holders if the scheduled resumption date shifts.

The anticipated continuation of performances marks the end of a nearly three-week hiatus for the Tony Award-winning musical. As the repair work concludes, the production expressed gratitude to the city agencies that assisted in the recovery efforts following the early May incident.
