Robyn Hurder is headed back to Cook County Jail. The Tony Award-nominated actor will reprise her turn as Velma Kelly in the Tony-winning revival of “Chicago” this holiday season. Hurder will begin with the production on Dec. 15, 2025 and continue through Jan. 11, 2026. Hurder will be filling in for Sophie Carmen-Jones.
Hurder is an alum of “Chicago,” having previously replaced as both Velma Kelly (in 2024) and Roxie Hart (in 2017), in addition to playing Mona and understudying as Roxie and Matron “Mama” Morton (in 2007). Hurder earned her Tony nomination for originating the role of Nini in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical.” More recently, she starred as Ivy Lynn in “Smash” and Marcia Murphey in “A Beautiful Noise.”
Hurder will appear in “Chicago” alongside a current principal cast that includes Kate Baldwin as Roxie Hart, Alex Newell as Matron “Mama” Morton, Hurder’s former “Moulin Rouge!” co-star Tam Mutu as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
“Chicago” is directed by Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Ann Reinking. The musical features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Ebb.
