Theatrical licensor Music Theatre International (MTI) has secured the licensing rights to “A Beautiful Noise.” The Neil Diamond bio-musical chronicles the life and career of the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter via the perspective of a series of therapy sessions.
Licensing availability for “A Beautiful Noise” will be announced.
“‘A Beautiful Noise’ is more than a musical — it’s a heartfelt celebration of Neil Diamond’s legendary catalog and the power of music to heal, inspire and bring people together,” said MTI president and CEO Drew Cohen in a statement. “From the first note to the final bows, it’s a fast-paced and dazzling journey that leaves audiences uplifted and singing all the way home. We can’t wait to see how theatres across the country embrace this show!”
“Writing a show about the life, music and legacy of the legendary Neil Diamond has been an honor and a thrill,” added “A Beautiful Noise” book writer Anthony McCarten. “This musical has a universally positive and optimistic message that will now be felt by audiences everywhere the show plays.”
Featuring direction by Michael Mayer and choreography by Steven Hoggett, “A Beautiful Noise” opened on Broadway on Dec. 4, 2022, at the Broadhurst Theatre. The production closed on June 30, 2024, after 657 performances. The musical’s currently running national tour, which launched in September 2024 at Providence Performing Arts Center, recouped its $6 million investment in five months.
MTI’s other recent licensing acquisitions include “The Notebook,” “The Heart of Rock and Roll” and 2024 Best Musical Tony Award nominee “Suffs.” The licensing house recently launched “Broadway Senior,” a collection of titles from MTI’s catalog that have been shortened to accommodate the performance needs and abilities of older adults.
