Magnolia Bakery will partner with Broadway musical ‘Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)’

This is the first Broadway partnership for the Manhattan-based confectionery.

The Broadway mounting of “Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)” has named Magnolia Bakery as its exclusive cake partner. Magnolia will provide cakes for all press and promotional events for the production, which will begin previews on Nov. 1 and open on Nov. 20 at the Longacre Theatre, through the end of 2025. 

This announcement marks the first partnership with a Broadway show for the bakery. Magnolia was founded in 1996, and is known for its cakes and cupcakes topped with a variety of pastel-hued frosting, as well as its icebox desserts and banana pudding. 

“Magnolia Bakery is thrilled to be part of ‘Two Strangers’’ Broadway debut,” said Magnolia Bakery head of brand and community Sara Gramling in a statement. “The partnership was an easy yes for us since cake is one of the desserts we know and love best. We are so excited to be part of this all-new show and for the chance to share Magnolia Bakery with theatergoers and fans across NYC.”

Featuring a book and score by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan, “Two Strangers” depicts a New York City meet cute when Robin is tasked with picking up Dougal from the airport for the impending nuptials of Robin’s sister and Dougal’s estranged father. The two-hander follows their journey in navigating not only New York, but also second chances.Tim Jackson will direct and choreograph “Two Strangers,” which will feature orchestrations by Lux Pyramid, music supervision by Nick Finlow and music direction by Ted Arthur.

The company will include Christiani Pitts as Robin and Sam Tutty as Dougal, as well as Phoenix Best and Vincent Michael as their respective standbys.

“Two Strangers” is being produced by Kevin McCollum, Tim Johanson, Glass Half Full Productions and Jamie Wilson Productions.
