La Masseria Group has joined Sardi’s as an operating partner. The iconic Theater District restaurant is now closed for renovations following its acquisition by the Shubert Organization. The reopening is scheduled for fall 2026.

La Masseria Group is co-owned by managing partners Peppe Iuele, Enzo Ruggiero, Pino Coladonato and Eddie Ricci; Coladonato also serves as executive chef, and Ricci is its CEO. The group owns three restaurants and two cafés in New York, with additional locations in East Greenwich, Rhode Island and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

In March, the Shubert Organization announced its acquisition of Sardi’s from longtime owner and former assistant Max Klimavicius, who acquired full ownership of the restaurant from the Sardi family in 2007. After more than 50 years of service to the restaurant, Klimavicius recently announced his retirement.

Since its opening in 1927, Sardi’s has been a fixture in the Broadway community, home to pre-show dinners, opening-night celebrations and business meetings. The restaurant is considered the birthplace of the Tony Awards, and traditionally hosts the annual Tony nominees luncheon. Sardi’s is also known for its collection of celebrity caricatures, which depict Broadway stars throughout the ages.

La Masseria echoed a spokesperson for the Shubert Organization in confirming that Sardi’s isn’t expected to undergo a major redesign as part of the ongoing renovations. “We are thrilled to partner with the Shubert Organization as we honor the rich history that came before us and bring a fresh perspective to the guest experience in this next chapter,” said Iuele, Ruggiero and Coladonato in a joint statement. “The refresh will maintain the essence of what has made Sardi’s such a beloved establishment in the community while making some thoughtful enhancements to ensure it continues to thrive for years to come.”

While the restaurant is closed, Sardi’s is collecting memories as part of its “My Sardi’s Story” initiative. Past diners can submit photos, videos or written stories of their Sardi’s memories on the restaurant’s official website, which it may then opt to share on social media.

The Shubert Organization has added the Sardi’s name and the restaurant’s assets to its portfolio of 17 Broadway theaters, six Off-Broadway venues and Philadelphia’s Forrest Theatre.
