SpotCo, the New York-based Broadway advertising agency, and the London-based Dewynters have announced a personnel change. James Charrington has been appointed chair of both organizations, which fall under the umbrella of independent global marketing group Miroma Group. Charrington will move into this role in October, following his current tenure as CEO of both SpotCo and Dewynters.
Charrington was appointed CEO of Dewynters in 2016, and was subsequently named head of SpotCo in 2022. Charrington oversaw both agencies’ stabilization and post-pandemic expansion. At SpotCo, this included the recently announced leadership restructure that saw the promotion of longtime SpotCo staffers Callie Goff to managing director and chief creative officer and Stephen Sosnowski to managing director and chief client officer.
“I had a very specific brief in 2022, following six years at Dewynters; to grow the two companies together, and quickly, following a harrowing spell for the industry during the pandemic,” Charrington said in a statement. “I’m delighted to see both Dewynters and SpotCo thriving and that is in no small part down to the teams we have in place, with the incredible leadership of managing directors Callie Goff and Steve Sosnowski at SpotCo and Anne Ewart at Dewynters. Bringing audiences and artists together is one of the most exciting challenges in the marketing world and I’m proud to have been a part of the industry’s recovery at such a crucial time; I’m thrilled to continue my career-long association with the agencies and with our clients in the U.K. and U.S. in my new role as chair.”
“James’ experience in theatrical marketing is second to none, something that is evidenced in the phenomenal job he has done over the past few years strengthening Dewynters and SpotCo to create a transatlantic powerhouse,” added Miroma Group founder and CEO Marc Boyan. “That he is now in a position to step into a chair role is testament to his commitment to that joint CEO position. He remains the very best person to support the two businesses.”
Following Charrington’s success in expanding both agencies, no one will take over as CEO. SpotCo will continue to be led by Goff and Sossnowski, as well as chief communications officer Kiki Rathburn and chief strategy officer Scott Johnson.
On Broadway, SpotCo has crafted advertising campaigns for such recent productions as “Dead Outlaw,” “John Proctor Is the Villain,” “Just in Time” and “The Hills of California.”
