Gov. Cuomo says no update on Broadway reopening as indoor dining is cleared

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that indoor dining will be able to resume in New York City beginning Sept. 30. Restaurants will be allowed to operate at 25% capacity and diners will be required to submit to temperature checks and wear face coverings when not seated at a table.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that indoor dining will be able to resume in New York City beginning Sept. 30.

Restaurants will be allowed to operate at 25% capacity and diners will be required to submit to temperature checks and wear face coverings when not seated at a table. While Cuomo has approved indoor dining, as well as school openings, he said in a press conference that he still does not have a reopening timeline for high-density spaces such as Broadway theaters.

“I don’t have any additional information,” Cuomo said in response to a question from the press. “We’ll see how it goes.”

“If the infection rate stays down, you can take more risk,” he added.

Movie theaters, as well as indoor fitness classes, are also still barred from reopening.

The COVID-19 infection rate in New York City remains at about 1%. Further restrictions may be put in place if the infection rate rises to an unsustainable level, Cuomo said.
