“Girl from the North Country” has set a closing performance date for Jan. 23, but is in talks to return in the spring, the production announced Wednesday.

The musical opened at the Belasco Theatre on Broadway on March 5, 2020, but closed due to the pandemic. It returned to the theater on Oct. 13, 2021 and is now in “advanced conversations” to reopen at another theater later this season.

The production is Tony Awards eligible this season and had recently been inviting voters.

“’Girl From The North Country’ is an important part of this season,” said Robert E. Wankel, chairman and chief executive of the Shubert Organization. “We have always been supportive of this show, and we are excited about bringing it to another theater in the spring.”

The move follows “Mrs. Doubtfire,” which recently struck a deal with its theater owner, Roundabout Theatre Company, to go on a nine-week hiatus. The hiatus is intended to avoid closing the show permanently during the winter months and amid a rise in COVID-19 cases.

Several other Broadway productions have posted closing notices in recent weeks, after a rise in coronavirus cases within the companies brought about a string of canceled performances. “Thoughts of a Colored Man,” “Waitress” and “Jagged Little Pill” closed on Broadway during Christmas week. “Flying Over Sunset” and “Ain’t Too Proud” announced final performances dates of Jan. 16.

“Girl From The North Country” was written and directed by Conor McPherson and features the songs of Bob Dylan. The production is lead produced by Tristan Baker & Charlie Parsons for Runaway Entertainment. It was capitalized for up to $9 million, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The current cast features Todd Almond, Jeannette Bayardelle, Caitlin Houlahan, Marc Kudisch, Luba Mason, Jay O. Sanders, Austin Scott, Kimber Elayne Sprawl and Mare Winningham.
