On March 17, “Giant” will host a special Playwrights’ Night on Broadway. The special performance invites 75 New York-based writers at various stages of their careers. Notably, “Giant” playwright Mark Rosenblatt is making his Broadway debut with the John Lithgow starrer. The play is also Rosenblatt’s first as a writer, as he is best known for his directing.

The show’s producers have partnered with New York Theatre Workshop, Playwrights Horizons, Dramatists Guild of America, the Dramatists Guild Foundation and the Royal Court to host the event, which it hopes will spark conversation around “Giant.”

“The belief of a brilliant director in my idea got me started, and the support and generosity of other playwrights friends who read and fed back drove me forward,” said “Giant” scribe Rosenblatt. “That sense of community was everything. Without them … I wouldn’t be here today in this dreamiest of moments on Broadway. I’m so honored to be able to share my journey with a yet wider community of brilliant, visionary writers here in this great city.”

Playwrights’ Night is sponsored by the Redstone Family Foundation, a philanthropic organization dedicated to combating hate and promoting education and strengthening the Jewish community.

“Giant” stars two-time Tony Award winner Lithgow as celebrated children’s author Roald Dahl, adapted from a real-life controversy in which Dahl was accused of making antisemitic comments. After a 2024 run at London’s Royal Court Theatre, it came to the West End the following year, winning three Olivier Awards, including Best New Play and Best Actor for Lithgow. It began Broadway previews at the Music Box Theatre on March 11, with an opening set for March 23. It is being produced on Broadway by Brian and Dayna Lee and Stephanie and Nicole Kramer.
