Music Theatre International (MTI) has acquired worldwide licensing rights to the Tony Award-winning musical “Maybe Happy Ending,” the theatrical licensor announced on Oct. 20.
The musical, written by Will Aronson and Hue Park, follows two outdated helper robots, Oliver and Claire, who form an unexpected bond and embark on a bittersweet journey of connection and self-discovery. Originally developed in South Korea, “Maybe Happy Ending” officially opened on Broadway on Nov. 12, 2024 at the Belasco Theatre, where it is currently running.
The production, directed by Tony winner Michael Arden, tied for the most nominations at the 78th Tony Awards with 10, winning six including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score. It also earned six Drama Desk Awards.
“Maybe Happy Ending is one of those rare musicals that feels both timeless and utterly fresh,” said Drew Cohen, president and CEO of MTI. “We feel privileged to welcome Hue and Will and this wonderful show into the MTI family and look forward to theaters everywhere experiencing ‘Maybe Happy Ending’’s power to entertain and inspire.”
