‘Come From Away’ to be made into feature film

“Come From Away” may be coming to a theater near you. The Mark Gordon Company announced Wednesday that it will produce and finance a film adaptation of the Broadway musical. The screenplay will be written by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, who wrote the book, music and lyrics for the musical.

“Come From Away” may be coming to a theater near you.

The Mark Gordon Company announced Wednesday that it will produce and finance a film adaptation of the Broadway musical. The screenplay will be written by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, who wrote the book, music and lyrics for the musical.

“A film adaptation [gives] us the chance to share this celebration of the best of humanity with audiences everywhere. We are happily overwhelmed that people want to see stories about people caring for others with incredible generosity and compassion,” Sankoff and Hein said in the release.

The adaptation will be a movie musical.

Timing on the film production and release has not been announced.

“Come From Away” has been doing well at the box office, bringing in $1.3 million at 106% capacity, for the week ended Nov. 12. The show was nominated for a 2017 Tony Award for Best Musical, but did not win. It took home the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical.

The Broadway producers of “Come From Away” include Junkyard Dog Productions, Jerry Frankel, Latitude Link and Smith & Brant Theatricals.

Mark Gordon is the producer on the film, which will be distributed worldwide by Entertainment One.

The Mark Gordon Company has previously produced more than 100 films including, “Saving Private Ryan,” “Steve Jobs,” “The Day After Tomorrow.” On the television side, the company is in production on “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Ray Donovan,” among others.
