The Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS board of trustees voted on Oct. 9 to welcome to its board eight industry leaders.

Joining the board are Grammy Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated writer/actor Sara Bareilles; Jeff T. Daniel, president of the Shubert Organization; Andrew Flatt, managing director of Disney Theatrical Group; Tony-winning actor J. Harrison Ghee; Tony-nominated actor Joshua Henry; producer John Johnson, co-founder of Wagner Johnson Productions; producer Greg Nobile, chief executive officer of Seaview Productions; and Tony-winning actor Lea Salonga.

“These leaders are among the most exciting voices in our industry,” said Robert E. Wankel, president of the Broadway Cares board of trustees and chairperson and CEO of the Shubert Organization. “Their talent and diverse perspectives will be invaluable as we continue to grow Broadway Cares’ fundraising and grantmaking efforts. We are proud to welcome these dynamic voices to our board.”

“This extraordinary group of artists, industry leaders and theatrical visionaries have long been shaping our industry and uplifting Broadway Cares through their passion and dedication,” said Danny Whitman, executive director of Broadway Cares. “We are deeply grateful to this brilliant cohort for standing with Broadway Cares in this important new capacity.”

Stepping off the board after years of service are Barry Brown, Richard Hester, Peter Lawrence, Jordan Roth and Tom Schumacher. The board has also acknowledged the contributions of two board members who recently passed away: president emeritus Paul Libin, prolific producer and longtime theater executive; and trustee Cornelius Baker, a public health advocate and policy expert.

Bareilles, a two-time Grammy winner, earned Tony nominations for her score of the musical “Waitress,” in which she later replaced in the lead role of Jenna. Bareilles was also Tony-nominated for her leading turn as the Baker’s Wife in a Broadway revival of “Into the Woods.”

Daniel is president of the Shubert Organization, the largest theater owner on Broadway. Daniel was previously chief strategy officer at Shubert, a role he assumed in September 2023 after serving as co-CEO of Broadway Across America.

Flatt is managing director of Disney Theatrical Group, overseeing strategy and business operations across finance, legal affairs, labor relations, marketing, sales, education, touring, licensing and international partnerships. He serves on the Broadway League’s board of governors.

Ghee made history as the first nonbinary actor to win a Tony in a leading performance category for playing the role of Daphne/Jerry in “Some Like It Hot.” Ghee also appeared in “Kinky Boots” and “Mrs. Doubtfire.” They are currently starring in New York Theatre Workshop’s new musical “Saturday Church.”

Henry is an actor who received Tony nominations for his turns in “The Scottsboro Boys,” “Violet” and “Carousel.” He is currently appearing as Coalhouse Walker Jr. in a Broadway revival of “Ragtime.”

Johnson is a producer and co-founder of Wagner Johnson Productions. Johnson launched his producing career with partner Sue Wagner on the Tony-nominated 2005 revival of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” Since then, Johnson has produced or general-managed more than 55 productions.

Nobile is a producer and the chief executive officer of Seaview Productions. Nobile made his Broadway producing debut with “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” which went on to win the Tony Award for Best Musical. Since then, Nobile has produced more than 25 productions.

Salonga made history as the first Asian actress to win a Tony for originating the role of Kim in “Miss Saigon” and has since appeared in “Here Lies Love,” “Les Misérables,” “Once on This Island,” “Old Friends” and more. In 2026, she will become the first Filipino to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
