Andrew Barth Feldman will join the Broadway cast of “Maybe Happy Ending” in the role of Oliver for a limited nine-week engagement beginning Sept. 2, 2025, through Nov. 1. The actor will succeed Darren Criss, whose final performance will be on Aug. 31.
Feldman, known for his starring roles in “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Little Shop of Horrors” and the film “No Hard Feelings,” joins the original Broadway cast including Helen J Shen, Dez Duron and Marcus Choi. Ensemble members Steven Huynh, Hannah Kevitt, Daniel May, Christopher James Tamayo and Claire Kwon will continue as understudies. Casting is by Craig Burns with the Telsey Office.
Of note, Feldman and his soon-to-be co-star Shen are romantic partners offstage. “I am so in love with this show and with Helen J Shen,” Feldman said in a statement. “I’ve been a plus-one on this Broadway journey from the beginning, and this brilliant team and beautiful company have already become such a big part of my life. That they trust me with this role, and are giving me the ridiculous gift of sharing it with Helen, is an honor beyond words.”
“Andrew is a remarkable talent — emotionally honest, musically gifted, and full of heart — and we can’t wait for audiences to experience his fresh and moving take on this role,” creators Will Aronson and Hue Park and director Michael Arden said in a joint statement. “We fell in love with Andrew’s take on the role of Oliver when he appeared as the reader in Helen J Shen’s initial audition tape, so to have him join her onstage at the Belasco is indeed a special treat, and a pairing we feel certain audiences will love as much as we (and they) do.
“At its core, ‘Maybe Happy Ending’ is a story about the longing for connection and the complexities of being human (and helperbot and vegetable) — universal themes that transcend all backgrounds,” they continued. “We’re proud to continue embracing infinite and exciting possibilities in casting and to showcase this role as one that welcomes different interpretations and lived experiences. We’re so excited for what Andrew will bring to this next chapter and can’t wait to see who will plug into Oliver’s charger next.”
“Maybe Happy Ending” opened on Nov. 12, 2024, at the Belasco Theatre and won the 2025 Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical features a Tony Award-winning book by Aronson and Park and Tony-winning score with lyrics by Aronson and Park with music by Aronson. The production also features Tony-winning direction by Michael Arden. It garnered additional wins for Criss as well as the scenic design by Dane Laffrey and George Reeve.
As previously announced, “Maybe Happy Ending” will launch a multi-year North American tour beginning in fall 2026 in Baltimore at the Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center.
“Maybe Happy Ending” is produced on Broadway by Jeffrey Richards and Hunter Arnold.
