“A Beautiful Noise” has set an Australian premiere. The musical, which is produced by Ken Davenport, Bob Gaudio, Paul Dainty and TEG Dainty, will open in August 2026 at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne.
The Neil Diamond bio-musical uses a series of therapy sessions to chronicle the life and career of the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, who is known for songs such as “America,” “Forever in Blue Jeans” and “Sweet Caroline.”
“The good times never seemed so good for our calendar of major events — this musical is yet another reason Melbourne is the cultural and major events capital of the nation giving locals and visitors alike exclusive experiences,” said Steve Dimopoulos, Melbourne’s minister for tourism, sport and major events, in a statement. “We know fans will turn out in their thousands to see the life and work of the legendary Neil Diamond celebrated in this musical which will also provide a boost for local jobs and businesses.”
Diamond himself is no stranger to Australia, having offered major concert tours throughout the country in 1976, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2005, 2011 and 2015. A performance of the 1976 tour was recorded live and released as the album “Hot August Night.”
“Bringing ‘A Beautiful Noise’ to Melbourne is extremely special for me,” noted Paul Dainty. “I’ve had the great privilege of working with Neil as his Australian promoter for decades, and this production is a powerful celebration of his life and music. I know Melbourne audiences will be moved by the joy, emotion, and unforgettable songs that have made Neil a legend.”
“Some of my most thrilling nights have been while sharing my music with audiences around the world,” Diamond said. “‘A Beautiful Noise’ has already had an incredible journey on Broadway and is currently touring across the U.S. and it’s an incredible honour to see it heading to Melbourne. I hope Australian audiences enjoy the show as much as I have.”
Directed by Michael Mayer and featuring a book by Anthony McCarten, “A Beautiful Noise” opened on Broadway on Dec. 4, 2022 at the Broadhurst Theatre. The production closed on June 30, 2024, following 657 performances (and 35 previews). A national tour, which recouped its investment after five months on the road, launched in September 2024.
Specific dates for the production will be announced.
