‘Wicked’ announces cast members Michele Pawk and Michael Wartella

Two new principal cast members are stepping into the Broadway production of "Wicked" at the Gershwin Theatre. Tony Award winner Michele Pawk will assume the role of Madame Morrible beginning on Dec. 12, succeeding Sharon Sachs, whose final performance will be on Dec. 11.

Two new principal cast members are stepping into the Broadway production of “Wicked” at the Gershwin Theatre.

Tony Award winner Michele Pawk will assume the role of Madame Morrible beginning on Dec. 12, succeeding Sharon Sachs, whose final performance will be on Dec. 11.

Also newly announced is that former cast member Michael Wartella returned to the production as Boq on Nov. 15, replacing Jordan Barrow, who exited “Wicked” on Nov. 13.

Last seen on Broadway in “Beautiful — The Carole King Musical,” Pawk’s other Main Stem credits include “Crazy for You,”  “Cabaret,” “Hairspray,” “Mamma Mia!,” “Chicago” and “Seussical.” Pawk won the 2003 Best Featured Actress in a Play Tony Award for her performance in “Hollywood Arms.”

In addition to a stint as Boq from 2013-2014, Wartella has been seen on Broadway in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Tuck Everlasting.”

Pawk and Wartella join a cast that currently includes Talia Suskauer as Elphaba, Brittney Johnson as Glinda, Tony winner Cleavant Derricks as The Wizard, James D. Gish as Fiyero, Clifton Davis as Doctor Dillamond and Mikayla Renfrow as Nessarose.

“Wicked” is produced on Broadway by Marc Platt, Universal Stage Productions, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone. Casting is by The Telsey Office.
