Tom Felton to light Empire State Building to commemorate his Broadway debut in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’

Felton is returning to his screen role of Draco Malfoy.

Upcoming “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” star Tom Felton will light up the Empire State Building on Oct. 27. The purpose of the lighting is to honor Felton’s Broadway debut and his return to the role of Draco Malfoy.

Felton originated the role of Draco Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” film series. As previously announced, he will portray the character in the Broadway play beginning on Nov. 11 for a 26-week engagement through May 10, 2026 at the Lyric Theatre.

The Empire State Building will first be lit in the four iconic colors of the individual Hogwarts Houses before it changes entirely to green, representing the Slytherin House to which the character of Draco Malfoy belongs. 

Based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is a future play by Jack Thorne, directed by John Tiffany. The play began previews on March 16, 2018, and officially opened on April 22. The play took home six 2018 Tony Awards, including honors as Best Director of a Play and Best Play.
