Theater licensor Theatrical Rights Worldwide (TRW) has acquired “Swept Away.” The musical features a book by John Logan and a score of new songs by the Avett Brothers, as well as songs from the folk group’s 2004 album “Mignonette.”

“TRW is proud to bring John Logan and the Avett Brothers’ ‘Swept Away’ into our premiere Broadway roster of iconic musical theater titles,” said TRW owner and CEO Steve Spiegel in a statement. “Its hauntingly beautiful, uplifting score provides a riveting backdrop to a searing story of compassion and forgiveness, which we’re excited to distribute to theaters around the world.”

Inspired by real events, “Swept Away” chronicles a whaling ship crew’s quest for survival following a shipwreck. The Michael Mayer-helmed tuner began previews on Oct. 29, 2024 and opened on Nov. 19 at Broadway’s Longacre Theatre. The production, which featured choreography by David Neumann, first announced a Dec. 15 closing date, but swiftly extended through Dec. 29. An original cast album was released in February 2025.

“To have made it to Broadway with ‘Swept Away’ was an epic voyage and a success in its own right. Knowing that the show will now continue its journey to audiences across the world is more than what we could have dreamt,” said Scott Avett and Seth Avett. “We are grateful and honored to see this haunting story continue its transformation into something much larger and further reaching than we ever imagined over the many years we were writing these songs.”

The Broadway company of “Swept Away” was led by John Gallagher, Jr., Stark Sands, Adrian Blake Enscoe and Wayne Duvall. Brian Usifer was the production’s music supervisor, while Will Van Dyke served as music director.

Licensing availability for “Swept Away” will be announced.

“Swept Away” on Broadway was produced by Matthew Masten, Sean Hudock and Madison Wells Live.
