New York Road Runners (NYRR), the nonprofit running organization behind the New York City Marathon, has partnered with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the Broadway League to offer the inaugural Broadway Mile. The race, which is specifically for members of the Broadway community, will take place on Sept. 7 at 9:35 a.m.

Described as a “friendly competition,” the race will encompass a 20-block stretch of Museum Mile in Manhattan, starting from the Metropolitan Museum of Art on 5th Avenue and 80th Street and ending at Grand Army Plaza at 5th Avenue and 60th Street. Special awards will be given for the fastest Broadway team, fastest Broadway miler (broken down by man, woman and nonbinary participants), most inspirational Broadway miler and top Broadway miler fundraiser.

Broadway performers scheduled to partake include Tony Award winners Kelli O’Hara and Patina Miller, as well as performers Sierra Boggess, Jordan Fisher and Jordan Litz. Participating shows will include 2025 Best Musical Tony Award winner “Maybe Happy Ending,” as well as “Cabaret,” “Mamma Mia!” and “The Book of Mormon,” and Off-Broadway’s “Little Shop of Horrors.” Participants will have the option to fundraise for Broadway Cares, the national nonprofit that provides access to medications, counseling, housing and other services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS and other illnesses.

“I am beyond excited to lace up for the Broadway Mile with Broadway Cares and New York Road Runners running alongside some of Broadway’s most talented performers from shows across the Great White Way,” said Miller in a statement. “As an avid runner and a proud member of the Broadway community, this event blends two of my passions — performance and endurance — for an incredible cause.”

“Performers, crew members and theater lovers will all be racing toward the same goal — providing meals and medication, health care and hope to people who need them most across the country,” said Broadway Cares executive director Danny Whitman.“This partnership is a meaningful reminder of how unstoppable our community can be when we run together, fueled by compassion.”

“The Broadway League is proud to partner with New York Road Runners and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS on the inaugural Broadway debut of the Broadway Mile,” added Broadway League president Jason Laks. “This is a unique opportunity to see our passionate and energetic theater community walk, run and dance their way across NYC in support of such an important cause.”

The New Balance 5th Avenue Mile will be televised live on WABC-TV, Channel 7 in the New York Tri-State area from 12 to 1 p.m. ET and will stream on ESPN+. Additionally, iHeart radio will provide a live broadcast on 710 WOR AM and 104.3HD2 in New York from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. ET.
