The Broadway production of “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” will host a series of events and activations in November. Dubbed “Hawkins High School Homecoming Week,” the programming will honor Stranger Things Day, November 6, which is the day in 1983 in the Netflix series when Will Byers disappeared into the Upside Down.
First up, on Nov. 4 the Raising Cane’s Times Square location will give away tickets to the Kate Trefy-penned science-fiction thriller.. Tickets will be distributed every hour from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the fried chicken eatery. The partnership will continue at that evening’s 7 p.m. performance when the first 200 audience members to arrive will receive a voucher redeemable for a free Raising Cane’s Box Combo meal. All attendees at the evening’s performance are encouraged to partake in friendship bracelet-making stations set up in the lobby of the Marquis Theatre.
The 7 p.m. performance on Nov. 5 will offer a partnership with Lifetouch. The photography company will provide an immersive yearbook picture day experience with a photo session for all attendees. Theatergoers are encouraged to attend in costume or in their best school picture day looks.
In honor of Stranger Things Day, attendees of the 7 p.m. performance on Nov. 6 will receive a “Stranger Things” window card. The performance will be followed by a talkback.
Finally, “Stranger Things” will offer an activation with Funko from Nov. 6 through Nov. 9. The brand has created a new line of Pop! Yourself accessories inspired by the television series’ fifth and final season, which is set to premiere on Nov. 26. Fans will be able to create customized Funko Pop! Figures here.
Based on an original story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne and Trefry, “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” serves as a prequel to the events seen in the Netflix series. Set in the fictional town of Hawkins Indiana, the play follows newly arrived high school student Henry Creel, whose presence turns their world upside down. Directed by Stephen Daldry and co-directed by Justin Martin, the production began previews on March 28 and opened on April 22 at the Marquis Theatre.
“Stranger Things” was nominated for five Tony Awards, winning three competitive trophies (for scenic, lighting and sound design), in addition to receiving a special award for its illusions and special effects. Louis McCartney was nominated for his leading turn as the aforementioned Henry Creel, and, in doing so, became the youngest performer nominated in this specific category (tied with Peter Firth).
“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” is produced by Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions.
