Concord Licensing has announced the release of a youth-centered version of the Broadway musical “School of Rock.” “School of Rock: Young Actors Edition” is now available for licensing to amateur theaters across North America.
Featuring a Tony Award-nominated score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Glenn Slater and a Tony-nominated book by Julian Fellowes, “School of Rock” follows Dewey Finn, whose dreams of becoming a rock star interfere with his new post as a substitute teacher. Finn’s classroom of straight-A students quickly forms a band of their own.
Adapted by iTheatrics, the young actors edition of “School of Rock” provides a slew of assets in its licensing package, including downloadable production guide, student vocal book, piano/vocal score, guide vocal tracks, accompaniment tracks, audition sides, official artwork and instructional choreography and staging videos. In this truncated 60-minute version of the show, the performers are not required to play live instruments.
“We are thrilled to add ‘School of Rock: Young Actors Edition’ to our roster, giving more schools the opportunity to bring this touching and inspiring story to their students and communities,” said Concord’s senior vice president of amateur licensing Billie Davis in a statement.
“‘School of Rock: Young Actors Edition’ gives students the chance to ‘rock hardcore!’” said iTheatrics founder and CEO Timothy Allen McDonald. “Adapted by iTheatrics and featuring musical keys perfect for young voices with a running time of about 60 minutes, and no requirement for students to play live instruments, this edition makes the show accessible to schools and youth theaters everywhere.”
