Ryan McCartan to depart ‘The Great Gatsby’

The musical based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel continues at the Broadway Theatre.

Ryan McCartan has set a final bow in the titular role of Broadway’s “Great Gatsby” musical. McCartan will depart the production, currently running at the Broadway Theatre, on Nov. 9. McCartan joined the musical on Jan. 21, having taken over for original star Jeremy Jordan. A successor to McCartan will be announced.

McCartan made his Broadway debut replacing as Fiyero in “Wicked.” McCartan’s additional Main Stem credits include playing Hans in “Frozen,” a performance he reprised on the subsequent national tour. McCartan is a 2011 winner of the Jimmy Awards.

The current cast of “The Great Gatsby” also includes Aisha Jackson as Daisy Buchanan, Michael Maliakel as Nick, Linedy Genao as Myrtle Wilson, Austin Colby as Tom Buchanan, Samantha Pauly as Jordan Baker, Charlie Pollock as George Wilson and Eric Anderson as Meyer Wolfsheim. Casting for “The Great Gatsby” is by C12 Casting.

Featuring music by Jason Howland, lyrics by Nathan Tysen and a book by Kait Kerrigan adapted by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, “The Great Gatsby” follows the reclusive and enigmatic millionaire Jay Gatsby who attempts to rekindle an old romance with Daisy Buchanan in 1920s Long Island. The production features direction by Marc Bruni, choreography by Dominique Kelley and musical direction by Daniel Edmonds. Following previews that began on March 29, “The Great Gatsby”  opened on April 25. Linda Cho won a 2024 Tony Award for her work as the production’s costume designer.
