The Broadway In Memoriam Committee has announced the date of its second collective marquee dimming. On Sept. 9 at 6:45 p.m., the lights of all 41 Broadway theaters will temporarily go dark in honor of the recent passing of notable theater industry leaders and artists.

The individuals who will be honored at the Sept. 9 group dimming will be performers Edie Cowan, Cleo Laine and George Wendt, director Mark Brokaw, playwright Richard Greenberg, producers Jack Batman and Beth Newburger, producer and theater owner Paul Libin and community leader Lloyd Williams.

Separately, Libin, who led Circle in the Square Theater for decades and held several titles at Jujamcyn Theaters, including executive vice president and producing director, will receive a memorial at all Broadway theaters on a date to be announced.

While the tradition of darkening Main Stem marquee lights in honor of fallen members of the community extends back to the early 1950s, the collective dimming is new. Established in spring 2025, the Broadway In Memoriam Committee will host quarterly dimmings on the second Tuesday in September, December, March and June. The inaugural group dimming took place on June 10. As is the case with the aforementioned Libin, exceptions may arise for individuals who have made a profound impact on the industry.

Names of late individuals whose careers have been dedicated to the Broadway industry may be submitted here for consideration. The deadline to submit for the next dimming is Nov. 11.
