Music Theatre International has announced its acquisition of “The Great Gatsby,” the musical with a book by Kait Kerrigan, lyrics by Nathan Tysen and music by Jason Howland. MTI will add “Great Gatsby” to its catalogue of shows available for licensing to amateur and professional theaters around the world.

“Audiences are sure to fall in love with ‘The Great Gatsby’ and its world of dazzling parties, aching romance and timeless ambition,” said Drew Cohen, MTI’s president and CEO, in a statement. “Jason, Nathan and Kait have truly captured the spirit of the novel where the music, lyrics and book work seamlessly to portray the irresistible allure of the American dream.”

In a joint statement, Kerrigan, Howland and Tysen added, “It is an absolute honor to have our adaptation of ‘The Great Gatsby’ included in MTI’s exemplary catalogue of American musicals. Watching audiences on Broadway, the West End and around the world embrace our show has been equal parts thrilling and humbling. We cannot wait to see how theaters big and small bring to life Fitzgerald’s great American tragedy disguised as the greatest party you’ve ever seen.”

The musical is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel, which centers on World War I veteran Nick Carraway as he is drawn into the turbulent Jazz Age revelry of the enigmatic Jay Gatsby. Produced by Chunsoo Shin, the musical premiered at New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse in 2023 before opening at the Broadway Theatre in 2024, winning the Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical. It ran internationally in both London and South Korea in 2025, and launched a national tour on January 31, 2026.
