Musical licensing firm Music Theatre International (MTI) has announced that it is adding three new musicals to its library of shows adapted for older actors. “Sister Act SR.” and “The Drowsy Chaperone SR.” will be released in the spring. The third show, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying SR.,” is currently in development.
These musicals will join MTI’s collection of “Broadway Senior” adaptations of Broadway shows, which feature shortened running times, adjustments to tempos and keys in musical numbers and other production resources, enabling all older adults to participate regardless of their prior experience.
Musicals already adapted for “Broadway Senior” include “The Music Man SR.,” “Guys and Dolls SR.,” “Singin’ in the Rain SR.,” “Fiddler on the Roof SR.” and “Into the Woods SR.”
“It is extremely gratifying to see the thousands of lives that have been positively changed because of ‘Broadway Senior,’” said MTI president and CEO Drew Cohen in a statement. “From the actors in the shows to the creative team and administrators supporting them to the families and friends who enjoy the performances, ‘Broadway Senior’ musicals help achieve MTI’s goal of making theater accessible and available to anyone regardless of age.”
The Dramatists Guild recently announced that MTI would be the 2026 recipient of its Konecky Award, noting the company’s “commitment to educational theater and greater arts accessibility.” In the statement announcing the new “Broadway Senior” shows, Cohen encouraged other Broadway licensors to consider their own adaptations. “We strongly encourage other licensing companies to take note of how important these shows are to the larger community and invest in creating versions of their musicals for older adults as well.”
