The New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) has announced that its upcoming “Made in NY” awards will solely honor the city’s theater and live performance community. The event, which will be hosted by Mayor Eric Adams and MOME commissioner  Pat Swinney Kaufman, will take place on Sept. 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Gracie Mansion (the mayor’s residence) in Manhattan.

While the “Made in NY” awards were established in 2006, this event will mark the first time the ceremony is dedicated completely to celebrating artists, administrators and community leaders from the worlds of theater, dance and live performance across all venues in all five New York City boroughs. The announcement of the theater-centric awards comes on the heels of a June “Made in NY” awards ceremony that honored achievement in television and film.

“This ‘Made in NY’ Awards ceremony will gather together creatives across our vast ecosystem of talent — from the musicians in the orchestra pits of Broadway to the local dance theaters throughout the five boroughs — for a special night of celebration and thanks,” Swinney said in a statement. “This event is a moment for our administration to acknowledge a community that has continued to cultivate diversity and inclusion, and inspire audiences from around the world, while driving business and tourism year upon year.”

The September ceremony will honor four individuals and/or groups, which will be announced.

Previous theater-adjacent “Made in NY” honorees include Entertainment Community Fund president and CEO Joe Benincasa, Tony Award winners Alan Cumming, Neil Patrick Harris, John Leguizamo, Audra McDonald, Patina Miller and Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tony nominee Danielle Brooks and the New Victory Theater.
