Walt Disney Studios has announced that the filmed version of the Broadway production of “Hamilton” will receive a theatrical release. The live capture, which was filmed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in June 2016, will be released on Sept. 5, 2025, in cinemas across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

The theatrical release will expand upon the original live capture, which first premiered on Disney+ in July 2020, with the inclusion of additional content. The in-cinema version will include “Reuniting the Revolution,” a special prologue to the film featuring new interviews with the original cast and creators, as they meditate on “Hamilton”’s impact on their lives and careers.

The Public Theater, which produced “Hamilton”’s Off-Broadway run in 2015 before the musical’s transfer to the Main Stem, will host a special screening of the film at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park on Sept. 3.

“When we filmed ‘Hamilton,’ we wanted to try to capture the feeling of being in the Richard Rodgers Theatre during that first year on Broadway,” said “Hamilton” director and producer Thomas Kail in a statement. “And we’re thrilled that audiences will now have the opportunity to experience it on the big screen.”

The film features the Tony Award-winning performances of Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler and Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr, as well as Tony-nominated turns by creator Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Jonathan Groff as King George and Christopher Jackson as George Washington, with Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds, Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

Following the North American debut of “Hamilton,” the film will be released in the United Kingdom and Ireland on Sept. 26 and in Australia and New Zealand on Nov. 13.

“Hamilton”’s theatrical release comes on the heels of the musical’s 10-year Broadway anniversary on Aug. 6. Featuring a Tony Award-winning book and a score by Miranda inspired by Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography of the first secretary of the treasury, “Hamilton” chronicles the key players in the founding of the United States of America. The production received a record-breaking 16 Tony Award nominations, winning 11, including Best Musical.

The “Hamilton” live capture is produced by Kail, Miranda and Jeffrey Seller, and executive produced by Sander Jacobs and Jill Furman. Filming was produced by RadicalMedia.
