Theatre Communication Group (TCG), a national nonprofit service organization for theater, has named Kamilah Long as director of advancement and philanthropic engagement. In this newly created position, Long will lead the strategy and implementation of TCG’s fundraising efforts across individual, foundation, corporate and government sources. Long began in her new post on May 19.

No stranger to organizational advancement, Long served as chief development officer at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF). Prior to her work with OSF, Long was the executive director of Play On Shakespeare and the inaugural director of development at the National Black Theatre in Harlem. Kamilah is founder and CEO of the Black Whole, which has produced several short films, including “You Go Girl!,” which was an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival.

“Kamilah’s passion for transformative giving and her deep relationships within the arts and philanthropic sectors make her uniquely positioned to lead this crucial work,” said TCG’s co-executive director of national engagement LaTeshia Ellerson in a statement. “We’re thrilled to welcome her to our TCG team.”

“I’m honored to join TCG at such a transformative time in the American theater landscape,” added Long. “I see a powerful alignment between mission and momentum, and I’m eager to contribute to national strategies that advance a culture of philanthropy rooted in equity, artistic excellence and long-term resilience.”

Long’s appointment follows a series of leadership and personnel changes at TCG within the last year, including the naming of a trio of co-executive directors (Alisha Tonsic, Emilya Cachapero and the aforementioned Ellerson) as well as board chair Nataki Garrett.
