“& Juliet” and TDF have partnered to create &Future, a new educational initiative providing free tickets and talkback sessions to New York City students and educators. Through the spring of 2026, the two organizations are offering 1,600 individuals the chance to see “& Juliet” at no cost and participate in talkbacks with cast and members of the creative team.
“Education has always been important to the team at ‘& Juliet’ — we’re inspired by Shakespeare, after all!,” said “& Juliet” producer Theresa Steele Page in a statement. “It’s exciting to help create opportunities for students to experience live theater, and we are especially honored to share an inspiring story where our audience members can see themselves reflected in our company, on stage and beyond.”
The initiative began Jan. 7 with 200 New York City students being given free tickets to the Tony-nominated musical at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. On Jan. 27 “& Juliet” also hosted a Teacher Appreciation Night.
As part of the initiative TDF and “& Juliet” have also created free online resources offering school activities tailored to different grade levels and behind-the-scenes insights into the show. The “& Juliet” Educational Hub can be found here.
“Programs like &Future are part of the shared commitment that the performing arts community must undertake to ensure theater remains accessible and meaningful for future generations,” added TDF vice president for strategic partnerships and industry relations Matt Chisling.
Written by David West Read and featuring music from pop songwriter Max Martin, “& Juliet” tells the story of William Shakespeare’s wife Anne as she attempts to convince her husband to rewrite “Romeo and Juliet” with a female-empowered narrative. “& Juliet” opened on Nov. 17, 2022 and was nominated for nine Tony Awards.
Founded in 1968, the nonprofit TDF is dedicated to removing financial, physical and invisible barriers to participation in the performing arts through initiatives such as discount ticket booths throughout the city, a membership program which gives members access to discounted ticket rates to shows, and accessibility programs such as ASL-interpreted and autism-friendly performances.
