The Isabelle Stevenson Award is given out by the Tony Awards to a member of the theater community for contributions to humanitarian, social service or charitable causes. Light was selected for her advocacy to end HIV/AIDS and her support of the LGBTQ+ community and human rights.

Light has continually spoken out against injustices and worked with organizations including Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, GLAAD, NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, Project Angel Food and the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

“To be so generously acknowledged by The American Theatre Wing, The Broadway League and the Tony Awards, and to be included with these outstanding individuals who have received this honor before me, has been one of the most extraordinary gifts I have ever received in my life,” Light said. “The HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ+ communities are inspirations and demonstrations of how to be and live in the world; courageous, honorable, and uplifting. They inspire me and it is my privilege to be of service to them.”

In addition to her advocacy, Light is a two-time Tony Award winner, for her performances in “Other Desert Cities” in 2012 and “The Assembled Parties” in 2013. She most recently appeared on Broadway in “Thérèse Raquin” in 2015.

Last year’s Isabelle Stevenson Award was given to Nick Scandalios, executive vice president of the Nederlander Organization. Previous recipients include Baayork Lee, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Stephen Schwartz.
