Singer, songwriter and EGOT winner John Legend has joined the producing team of “Cats: The Jellicle Ball” on Broadway. Legend is co-producing with Emmy Award-winning producer Mike Jackson through their Get Lifted Film Co., which produces film, television, music and books as well as theater.

Through the company, Legend and Jackson were the recipient of a Tony Award for co-producing the 2017 revival of “Jitney.” The production company’s Broadway credits also include “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations.” Get Lifted is also producing a previously announced stage adaptation of the 1959 film “Imitation of Life” with music and lyrics by Legend and a book by Lynn Nottage, set to debut this fall at Off-Broadway venue the Shed.

Legend and Jackson join previously announced “Cats: The Jellicle Ball” producers Michael Harrison, Mike Bosner, Cynthia Erivo and Lena Waithe.

A reimagining of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats” set in the world of ballroom, “Jellicle Ball” is scheduled to begin previews at the Broadhurst Theatre on March 18 prior to its opening on April 7. The production is directed by Zhailon Levingston and Bill Rauch, with choreography by Omari Wiles and Arturo Lyons.
