Broadway’s box office declined for the second week in a row as the summer nears its end. There were 28 productions offered during the week ending Aug. 24; they collectively grossed $28,634,041. This represents a 3.9% decrease from the week prior, the week ending Aug. 17 (when one additional show was playing). Attendance also dipped, but by a smaller amount (down 2.4%); Main Stem admissions totaled 239,811. Capacity, however, increased 1.9% in a week that included the Broadway League’s Kids’ Night on Broadway program (which offers two-for-one tickets to 18 participating shows for an adult and youth theatergoing pair), 89.6% of available seats in theaters were filled.
