The new musical “Death Becomes Her” has announced a partnership with a group of contemporary NYC artists for “Artists on Artists,” a brand-new series aimed to create new, original works of art inspired by the show.

The five original works of art inspired by “Death Becomes Her” will be revealed on May 12 online and in-person on a billboard located on the northwest corner of 51st Street and 7th Avenue in New York City’s Theater District.

The new series began with a trip for the artists to the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre to see a performance of “Death Becomes Her.” From there, each artist sat down with select members of the cast and creative team for conversations and a behind-the-scenes look at how the “Death Becomes Her” musical came to life.

Following those conversations, the visual artists returned to their studios to create entirely new works that reflect the spirit of “Death Becomes Her” through the artists’ own lenses.

The “Death Becomes Her” “Artists on Artists” pairings included director Quentin Jones with the musical’s director/choreographer Christopher Gattelli; graphic designer Gail Anderson with songwriters Julia Mattison and Noel Carey and book writer Marco Pennette; illustrator Jade Purple Brown paired with cast members Megan Hilty, Jennifer Simard, Christopher Sieber and Michelle Williams; illustrator Marcos Chin with sound designer Peter Hylenski and orchestrator Doug Besterman; and multimedia designer Jessica Walsh with scenic designer Derek McLane, costume designer Paul Tazewell and lighting designer Justin Townsend.

The “Artists on Artists” conversations are available to watch here.

“Death Becomes Her” began Broadway previews on Oct. 23, 2024, and officially opened on Nov. 21 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Based on the 1992 Universal Pictures film of the same name, the musical chronicles the escapades of adversaries Madeline Ashton (Hilty) and Helen Sharp (Simard) who, after taking a magical potion promising eternal youth, face off for the love and attention of the same man (Sieber). “Death Becomes Her” is currently nominated for ten 2025 Tony Awards.

“Death Becomes Her” is produced by Universal Theatrical Group, overseen by Jimmy Horowitz and led by Lowe Cunningham. Marcia Goldberg serves as executive producer.
