Concord Theatricals has acquired the exclusive, worldwide English-language stage licensing rights to George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s “Good Night, and Good Luck.” The drama will be available for licensing through Samuel French, an imprint of Concord, while an acting edition of the script is slated for publication in summer 2025.

Adapted for the stage from Clooney and Heslov’s screenplay for the 2005 film of the same name, “Good Night, and Good Luck” dramatizes the historic, on-air battle of real-life CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow in exposing the lies and corruption of senator Joseph McCarthy’s communist investigation.

“It’s a privilege to add George and Grant’s play to Concord’s catalog of landmark shows that engage in cultural critique,” said Concord’s chief theatricals executive Sean Patrick Flahaven in a statement. “Having grown up in a political family, the film has always been a favorite of mine, and this is a brilliant adaptation for the stage. Professional theaters, community theaters, universities and schools will all find it compelling.”

“We are excited that ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ will be published and made available for licensing through Concord Theatricals,” added Clooney and Heslov. “We look forward to seeing this story on bookshelves and stages around the world.”

Featuring direction by David Cromer, the Broadway mounting of “Good Night, and Good Luck” began previews on March 12 and opened on April 3 at the Winter Garden Theatre. The production is scheduled to play a limited engagement through June 8.

Beyond “Good Night, and Good Luck,” other recent acquisitions by Concord include 2024 Best Play Tony Award winner “Stereophonic,” Heidi Schreck’s adaptation of “Uncle Vanya,” Amy Herzog’s Tony-nominated version of “An Enemy of the People” and Max Wolf Friedlich’s dark drama “Job.”

“Good Night, and Good Luck” is produced by Seaview, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Jean Doumanian and Robert Fox.
