Concord Theatricals has announced its acquisition of “Hamilton”’s exclusive worldwide secondary stage licensing rights (previously known as “stock and amateur” rights, which cover all non-replica productions). Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical will initially be made available to young performers with a teen edition, which is in development for an expected 2028 launch.
“I am thrilled that ‘Hamilton’ is joining ‘In the Heights’ and ‘21 Chump Street’ as part of the Concord Theatricals family,” said Miranda in a statement. “I fell in love with theater not by seeing a lot of Broadway shows, but via my parents’ vinyl cast albums and participating in our high school’s annual musicals. I’m excited to see students take on these roles and to share this story from school stages in their communities. It’s only a matter of time.”
“We couldn’t be prouder to continue to represent Lin-Manuel’s work and to bring his astounding, game-changing show to educators and students worldwide,” added Sean Patrick Flahaven, chief theatricals executive of Concord. “His genius combination of history, politics and dynamic music is unique and thrilling. And on a personal note, this is a full-circle moment, having had the honor to be involved in its development, production and recording.”
With a book, music and lyrics by Miranda, “Hamilton” retells the story of America’s founding fathers through a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and musical theater. The Broadway production began previews on July 13, 2015, and opened on August 6 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where it continues to play.
“Hamilton” went on to win eleven 2016 Tony Awards, including the top prize of Best Musical. The show was also named that year’s winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. In 2018, Miranda and his “Hamilton” co-creators — director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervisor/orchestrator Alex Lacamoire — received an unprecedented special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors.
Beyond “Hamilton,” other recent acquisitions by Concord Theatricals include George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s 2025 drama “Good Night and Good Luck,” 2024 Best Play Tony Award winner “Stereophonic,” Heidi Schreck’s adaptation of “Uncle Vanya,” Amy Herzog’s Tony-nominated version of “An Enemy of the People” and Max Wolf Friedlich’s drama “Job.”
