The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) has announced that Tony nominee John Tartaglia will host the 4th Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards. The awards, which honor achievements in television programming for youth and families, will take place on March 2 at Frederick P. Rose Hall. Tartaglia will be joined in presenting awards by fellow original “Avenue Q” actors Stephanie d’Abruzzo and Jennifer Barnhart. D’Abruzzo is also nominated as outstanding puppetry performer.
Tartaglia, who was nominated for a Tony for his turn in “Avenue Q,” currently serves as the creative supervisor and director of the “Fraggle Rock” franchise, including the Emmy-winning Apple TV series “Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock.”
NATAS has also announced the presenters for the ceremony. Included in the group is actor June Squibb, recently seen on Broadway in “Marjorie Prime.” Squibb is one of a number of Broadway actors who have read children’s books on the Storyline Online website, which is a program of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. She is also a Children’s Family Emmy nominee for Outstanding Children’s Personality for her work on the show.
In addition to d’Abruzzo, other Broadway actors figure among the nominees. This includes Ana Gasteyer, who is set to return to Broadway later this season in “Schmigadoon!,” and is nominated in the category of outstanding voice performer in a preschool program. Tony winners Cynthia Erivo and John Lithgow, the latter whose new Broadway play “Giant” is slated to open in March, join Tony nominee John C. Reilly and Ernie Hudson as nominees in the category of outstanding single role voice performer in a children’s or young teen program. And current “MJ” actor Christopher Sean Cooper Jr. is nominated in the category outstanding younger voice performer in a preschool, children’s or young teen program.
The Children’s & Family Emmy Awards will be available to livestream and on the Emmys mobile app.
