The Broadway musical “MJ” will commemorate Black History Month with a special talkback moderated by radio host and cultural commentator Scottie Beam. The event, titled “Joy Through Legacy,” will take place at the Neil Simon Theatre immediately following the 7 p.m. performance on Feb. 27.
The talkback is designed to examine the ways in which Black artists construct a lasting cultural impact and how subsequent generations carry those legacies forward. Beam is known for her work as a former digital producer of Hot 97’s “Ebro in the Morning.” Beam’s portfolio also includes hosting Netflix’s “Rhythm + Flow: The Aftershow” and co-creating “The Black Girl Podcast.” She is currently the host of “Hi, I’m Uninspired” and the co-host of “The Scottie & Sylvia Show.”
“MJ,” a Michael Jackson jukebox musical, currently stars Matte Martinez in the title role. Directed and choreographed by two-time Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon, with Michael Jackson movement by Rich and Tone Talauega and a book by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, “MJ” was the recipient of four 2022 Tony Awards. The musical began previews on Dec. 6, 2021, and opened on Feb. 1, 2022.
“MJ” is produced by Lia Vollack, John Branca and John McClain.
